How Do I Choose a Real Estate Agent?

April 25, 2013 Michael Bordenaro

Imagine if you went to work today, and your boss said “Here is an assignment.  Whoever gets it done first gets paid; everyone else goes home without a paycheck this week.”  There are at least a couple dozen of co-workers in your office including you.  That would put you under immense pressure, and would make you wonder how secure your job is.  Yet, this is exactly what a lot of consumers do every day to real estate agents.  Whether you are a buyer, or a renter, you call every real estate agent in town until you find the place you want.

Well this is the wrong way of doing things.  If you would not want to be in the scenario above, why would you put someone else in that position?

To all consumers who do not know, real estate agents work exclusively on commission.  Meaning, we only get paid when we close a transaction, and we do not get paid, until it is closed.

To be fair, and to save yourself a lot of work when house hunting, enlist an agent that you trust.  Don’t just call every real estate ad you see that looks like it has an interesting property.  Just because the property may work for you, does not mean the agent will.  Take the time to call a few agents, or stop into your local real estate office. Tell them your needs, ask them what area they specialize in and see if they are a good fit for you.  There are a lot of crappy agents here in Miami, and you do not want to be stuck in the middle of a transaction with one.

My biggest complaint from all of my new clients is this: “The last agent I worked with was lazy, and just disappeared.”  I hate to say it, but this happens all too often in this business, giving realtors a bad rap.  That is where I come in.  I have proven testimonials from past clients on my website from satisfied clients.  I can assure you will receive the same level of service they did.  All I ask from my clients is their loyalty.  It does not mean we need to be lifelong friends or I will call you every day and night.  It just means that once you enlist my services, I will do my best in selling your home, or finding the right property for you.  After all, I do not get paid unless we are able to successfully do business together.

So next time you are looking for a place, remember this article, and remember to call me!
